The village of Roumeli - Crete

Irinikos Villa itself is located on the boundary line of Roumeli, a very traditional rural Cretan village with around 450 inhabitants. The local community are warm, welcoming and very friendly. Most of your holiday needs can easily be met by the facilities offered within the village. You will find several Cafenions, Taverna's and a good sized new supermarket that provides just about everything.

This wonderful village is as yet untouched by the tourist industry and is still the same quite village it has been for many, many years. The lifestyle in Roumeli is peaceful, relaxing and very much evolves around family life, a cultural aspect of society that much of Europe seems to have forgotten. It's not unusual for such a small community to gather as one family to celebrate special occasions such as weddings, religious festivals, especially Easter, the most important date in the Orthodox calendar.

Roumeli lies approximately 22Km east Rethymno, the principle town for this prefecture. The beaches in this area stretch for miles and are many and varied. The local tourist resort of Panormos is less than 2 Km down the road and well within walking distance. It is traditionally a small fishing village which supplies many local areas with fresh Mediterranean sea food. Tasting the fresh fish here in Panormos is a must. It also has all of the usual tourist facilities, some wonderful beaches and Taverna's, definitely a place to visit
